Surviving the IT Grind: AWS Certs and Imposter Syndrome

Grinding for AWS Solutions Architect certifications while facing a saturated IT market? Here is my struggle, real industry data, and advice for new grads fighting imposter syndrome.

Surviving the IT Grind: AWS Certs and Imposter Syndrome

I have been grinding. Hard. For the past few months, my life has revolved around practice exams, whitepapers, and late-night study sessions for my AWS Solutions Architect certifications. Honestly, I am completely overwhelmed. Looking back, my biggest regret is that I did not start this journey when I was still in college. If I had known how crucial cloud skills would be, I would have traded some of my free time for aws-cli practice back then.

But it is not just about the certs. It is about the brutal reality of the current job market. The IT industry is heavily saturated right now, especially at the entry level.

The Reality of a Saturated Market in 2026

If you think getting into IT is easy right now, think again. Here is what the landscape looks like with real data and industry trends:

  • Junior Role Flooding: For every entry-level cloud or software engineering job posting, companies are receiving upwards of 500 to 1,000 applications. The low barrier to entry for online bootcamps has created a massive surplus of junior talent.
  • The AI Shift: With the rapid integration of AI coding assistants and automated cloud provisioning tools, companies are doing more with fewer junior engineers. The basic tasks that used to train new grads are being automated.
  • The Experience Paradox: Job descriptions for entry-level roles now routinely ask for 3 to 5 years of experience, leaving fresh graduates in a catch-22 situation.
  • Post-Correction Hiring: Following the massive tech layoffs of recent years, the market is still absorbing highly experienced professionals who are now willing to take mid-level roles, squeezing out new grads.

Advice for New Grads

If you just graduated from your four-year course, I know this data is terrifying. But here is my biggest piece of advice: do not stop.

Do not let the saturation numbers convince you to quit. The tech industry is cyclical. While the entry-level door is narrow right now, the demand for specialized cloud architects will always exist. You just have to outlast the noise. Keep building projects, keep getting those AWS certs, and keep networking.

Along the way, you will face imposter syndrome. You will look at peers who seem to have it all figured out, and you will feel like a fraud.

Do not believe in your imposter syndrome.

Recognize that everyone is figuring it out as they go, especially in cloud architecture where the services update faster than we can read the documentation.

My ultimate tip for you, and a reminder to myself: be gentle to yourself.

  • Take breaks when you are burned out.
  • Celebrate passing a single practice exam, not just the final certification.
  • Remember that your worth is not defined by your current job title or your study hours.

The grind is real, and the IT industry is tough right now. But if you stay consistent, protect your mental health, and keep pushing forward, you will find your place in the cloud. Keep going.
